Turgen Gorge Tour: Kairak & Bear Waterfalls
Waterfalls, pine forest and a trout farm
One of the most scenic spots of the Trans-Ili Alatau: the Kairak and Bear waterfalls, crisp mountain air, finishing the day at a trout farm.
Program
- 08:00Departure from Almaty
A ~100 km drive (~2 h). Coffee break by the river (9:30–10:00): tandyr samsa, drinks. Optional: the Golden Man museum and Saka burial mounds.
- TrekkingKairak Waterfall
Starting from Batan village, 8 km one way (3–4 h) through a gorge of forests and mountain streams. A picnic by the mountain river.
- TrekkingBear Waterfall
A short 1.5 km route (40–60 min) through the coniferous forest.
- LunchTrout farm
Catch your own trout and cook it: fried, grilled or baked.
- 16:00–17:00Return
The ~100 km drive back, arriving in the city at 18:00–19:00.

Route
What to bring
Passport or ID card. Some locations are in the border zone — documents may be checked.
Sneakers or boots comfortable for walking in the mountains; ideally waterproof.
It can be cold in the mountains — bring warm but non-restrictive clothing.
Sunglasses, a cap or hat and sunscreen.
Rain is frequent in the mountains and forecasts are unreliable — bring rain protection.
There's no internet in the mountains — you can't pay by card or transfer.
